Biography
A vast variety of creative and professional experiences have shaped the artistic work of Los Angeles native, Debbi Green. From a child with crayons to a teenager at weekend workshops with Flemish artist, Florence Petit, her love of painting still lifes began. Debbi's background is as varied as each endeavor she took but always with an artistic flair. A B.A. in Fashion Design from U.C.L.A. led to her to design for a junior sportswear company, freelance as a textile designer and then to the film industry as a costume designer. Those were her day time jobs! At night she practiced, created and practiced more painting at a drafting board and spot light. The next twelve years, she created her own line of children's furniture, handpainted of course, and became nationally known as "Romantic Notions." That success provided Debbi with the freedom to explore what she was searching for. She then sought out and studied still life with Sharon Burkett-Kaiser and landscapes with Karl Dempwolf (both signature members of the California Art Club), and portraits with Marc Westermoe of L.A. Art Academy. The knowledge and talent of these wonderful artists, the inspiration of light from the 'Impressionists' and the colors of the 'Fauves' keeps Debbi painting on a daily basis. "I have to paint. With each painting I increase my vision and scope as a painter. There is a story I have to tell - hopefully a colorful one." Debbi is a member of the California Art Club, Malibu Art Association, and The Topanga Canyon Gallery, and is a contributor to several artist foundations in Los Angeles. She had made her home in Westlake Village, California. Excellence, beauty and humor is what she aspires to in her paintings and in life.
